VIDEO | York Racecourse completes redevelopment

Architecture and planning practice FWP provided project management, cost consultancy, and design services, with the completed work carried out by principal contractor Lindum.

Recently completed upgrades to the Southern End, including the refurbished Bustardthorpe stand, can now be seen in time-lapse.

The new Roberto Bar Pavilion, a permanent structure replacing the previous semi-permanent bar, is now in place, along with improvements to catering and toilet facilities.

The redevelopment has incorporated solar panels, rainwater harvesting, living roofs, and Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) approved planting.

Kate Shuttleworth, partner at Preston-headquartered FWP, who led on the project, said: “The work was all about enhancing the racegoer experience.

“The York Race Committee has a clear vision to ensure it remains one of the world’s best racecourses and it has an impressive track record of investing in the facilities, race programme, and visitor experience.

“This latest work has been completed in nine months and we’re proud to have played our part in creating something special that will be enjoyed by generations of racegoers to come.”

FWP’s relationship with York started in 2015, when its team helped to deliver a £10m revamp, providing technical and quantity surveying support for the renovation of the Northern End of the racecourse.

FWP has also managed projects at racecourses Haydock, Doncaster, Aintree Chester, Southwell, and Lingfield.
