VIDEO | Stirling Prize contender celebrated
Sheffield’s grade two-listed Park Hill will this week contest the highest honour in British architecture.
Phase two of Park Hill’s redevelopment, designed by Mikhail Riches and delivered by Urban Splash and Places for People, has been shortlisted, the second time the Brutalist estate has been so honoured.
The building has also been shortlisted for the RIBA Reinvention Award, acknowledging the transformative work completed during phase two.
Architectural practice Mikhail Riches previously won the Stirling Prize in 2019 for its work on Goldsmith Street.
RIBA has released a new video looking at the second phase of Park Hill’s redevelopment:
Together, the developers and design team have delivered a restoration of Europe’s largest listed building, creating 195 new flats and townhouses for private sale and rent, while preserving much of the original structure.
The homes have been upgraded to surpass high thermal and acoustic standards, with energy sourced from Sheffield’s waste-to-energy system.
Mark Latham, regeneration director at Urban Splash, said: “We are honoured to be shortlisted for the UK’s most prestigious architectural award.
“This recognition is a testament to the creativity and design expertise behind this phase of Park Hill’s redevelopment. We look forward to attending the ceremony in London on Wednesday.”
