Torsion plans Northallerton care-home

The developer has filed details of a 70-bed apartment block with five extra-care bungalows with North Yorkshire Council, ahead of a full planning application being submitted.

The plot of land is on Boroughbridge Road, in Romanby, with Spawforths as planning consultant.

Plans will include landscaped gardens, a car park, and cycle storage.

Pre-application talks have taken place with the council, which needs around 268 additional care-home spaces within a five-mile radius of the site according to analysis by Torsion.

Jacob Parker-Henry, a planner at Spawforths, said: “The scheme will provide high-quality care facilities for the local population, reducing strain on the capacity of existing health services.

“The overall design strategy for the proposed development is to create a market-leading care village, making use of an underutilised site which has strong development potential…

“There are also no further care homes with planning permission or pending decision.”
