Sheffield Ski Village revival progresses
The council is planning a £12m access road to support the redevelopment of the 51-acre site, at the same time as operator Skyline met with stakeholders.
The access road scheme will create a link between Oakham Drive and Vale Road, alongside upgrades to the Rutland Road–Oakham Drive junction to manage expected increases in traffic.
The project forms part of a wider programme to unlock and regenerate land at Parkwood Springs, backed by a £19.4m government grant.
Meanwhile, councillors from Sheffield City Council met representatives from New Zealand-based Skyline to discuss proposals for what has been described as ‘a major outdoor leisure facility’ on the site.
Sheffield Ski Village operated from 1988 until it was destroyed by a fire in 2012, forcing its closure.
The site was previously used to train the British freestyle skiing Olympic team, however has become a derelict plot.
Cllr Tom Hunt, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “Parkwood Springs is an important part of our regeneration work.
“Our plans to transform the whole area and the old Ski Village site continue to move forward.
“It was great to welcome Skyline back to the city and have positive discussions about their exciting plans for the site.
“We hope to be able to share more information in the Spring.”
