Retailers commit to Hull KR sports campus
Designed by architects Corstorphine & Wright, the 15-acre site will have six-acres assigned for retail and business units, with terms now agreed with two major retailers.
Each of the as-yet-to-be-announced retailers will be taking two-acre plots.
Hull Kingston Rovers has confirmed the masterplan for its sports campus, which aims to combine community and commercial elements, and ensure success for the Super League club both on and off the pitch.
The club is working with Sport England to develop other sporting activities at the Craven Park site, on which it holds an option to buy from Hull City Council.
National brands are now ready to move in, pending the outcome of a planning application in the spring.
The project team consists of Warwick Smither Consulting, planner DPP, cost consultant Ridge, and highways advisor LTP.
Continuing investment enabled the opening in December of a 3G community pitch and an extension to the east stand, which will be ready for the new season.
Paul Sewell, chairman of Rovers, said: “The vision is a sports campus. It will be the cornerstone of our plans for the future and will build on the potential of other projects which we have already delivered and which are creating a legacy for the community.
“We will be going for planning permission in the spring and we are encouraged by the response to the pre-application process. We aim to have spades in the ground within a few months of permission being granted.
“Everything we are doing is about creating sustainability going forward. You can only spend so much on the team so what we are also doing is investing in the culture and values.
“This is a hugely exciting project and a once in a generation opportunity that is vitally important for the area, local community and for the club.”
