Affordable apartment plans lodged with Leeds

Harrison Potter Trust has submitted plans with Leeds City Council for the demolition of 34 buildings and the construction of a 92-apartment block.

Acanthus Architects has designed the scheme, and AWSM was instructed on the planning.

Located at the junction of Lovell Park and Grafton Street, the site is opposite First Direct Arena and on an area of land surrounded on three sides by roads, including the A64 inner ring road to the south.

Currently, the 1.6-acre site comprises 34 single-storey almshouses, which were built in the 1960s and, says the Trust in planning documents, now unfit for purpose.

Harrison Potter is looking to develop an affordable housing scheme for the over-55s, and noted that existing residents in the almshouses will be relocated during construction and given the option of moving back in on completion.

A housing mix of one- and two-bedroom flats has been specified, with a preference towards more one-beds, as well as a communal lounge,

The landscaping will have a focus on creating communal spaces and parking will also be included.
