Plans in for Halifax estate revamp
Place Capital and Together Housing have submitted a proposal for 119 homes split across 12 plots in the Upper Mixenden development in a scheme designed by MCAU.
The rest of the project team consists of landscape architect DEP, planning consultant Eden, and engineering consultancy HTS.
Made up of unused green space and parking courts, the 12 sites have been selected to add to the affordable housing on offer and also ‘design-out’ crime by reducing spots where anti-social behaviour has been complained about.
Located around four miles north west of Halifax city centre in Mixenden, Calderdale, the estate has already had some buildings demolished on selected sites in anticipation of a rebuild, which have been allocated for housing in the Local Plan.
The housing mix is made up of one- and two-bedroom bungalows, apartments, and maisonettes, as well as three- and four-bedroom houses, based on property data obtained from Together Housing.
This will be split into 10 bungalows and 55 houses all with private gardens, and 54 apartments and maisonettes that will have access to shared amenities.
It is hoped the suggested housing mix will ‘rebalance’ what is on offer on the estate and as well as the homes, landscaping and public realm have been integrated into the masterplan.
