Places for People submits Sheffield plans
The affordable housing association has lodged an application for 59 homes on three acres off Ardmore Street in the Darnall suburb of the city.
Located around two miles to the north east of the city centre, Darnall was once a hamlet often grouped in with Attercliffe but now has more than 23,000 residents.
The site overlooks the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and has Ardmore Street running through the centre of it.
In the late 1800s the area was built up to house steelworkers from the Lower Don Valley. The housing on the site was cleared as part of a slum clearance exercise carried out by the government and has consequently served as a scrapyard.
It is now vacant, with the freehold owned by Sheffield City Council.
The application has been supported by consultant Align Property Partners with a suggested mix of 32 houses and three apartment blocks comprising 27 apartments.
The plot is near to J33 and J34 of the M1, and is accessed from Shirland Lane to the south, housing to the east, and Attercliffe railway line to the west – although it’s hidden by embankments and planting.
