Persimmon starts work on East Leeds Extension site

The York-headquartered housing developer will build 407 homes near Roundhay Park in Leeds.

Persimmon Homes will build a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom houses, all of which will have electric vehicle chargers.

The Wellington Mount development is located next to Red Hall Lane and forms part of the 575-acre East Leeds Extension, which extends around the edge of Red Hall, Swarcliffe, Whinmoor, and Crossgates.

One of the region’s largest infrastructure projects, up to 5,000 homes will be built by various developers. As well as Persimmon’s Wellington Mount development, Redrow Homes, Taylor Wimpey, Evans Homes and J Wilson Farms are also developing residential sites.

The September meeting of Leeds City Council’s north and east plans panel last week offered a pre-application position statement on around 500 homes at Morwick Green in the ELE’s middle quadrant, also from Persimmon.

The overall ELE project has seen the installation of the East Leeds Orbital Route, linking Red Hall with Thorpe Park and the M1.

To mark the start of work at Wellington Mount, Persimmon was joined by LCC’s Cllr Jess Lennox, who said: “It’s good to see work beginning on these new homes after a long period of planning and consultation with the East Leeds community and us local councillors.”

Christopher Hull, managing director of Persimmon West Yorkshire said: “The East Leeds Extension is a truly exciting project and we’re proud to be working with the Council to provide much needed new homes for local people.”
