Opening date for Radisson Blu Sheffield

Doors are due to open to paying guests at the new Radisson Blu hotel on 10 June, the latest addition to the Heart of the City development by the council and development partner Queensberry.

The 154-room hotel will have a rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking the Peace Gardens. The hotel is between Burgess Street and Pinstone Street in the former Palatine Chambers and City Mews. Bookings are being taken from Monday 25 March.

Heart of the City is a 1.5m sq ft mixed-use project in the city centre.

Cllr Ben Miskell, chair of the transport, regeneration and climate policy committee at Sheffield City Council, said: “We are very excited that work on our new Radisson Blu hotel is nearing completion. The view from the rooftop restaurant, overlooking the Peace Gardens, is a unique addition to the city centre and we can’t wait for the hotel’s guests and city centre visitors to enjoy it for themselves in June.

“Radisson Blu is a leading brand in the hospitality sector and one we had long hoped to bring to Sheffield. The hotel epitomises everything that is being achieved with Heart of the City and the high-quality benchmark we are setting. The hotel is in a phenomenal location to succeed, seconds away from world-class public realm in the Peace Gardens and Pound’s Park, market leading office buildings, and Europe’s largest purpose-built food hall. All of this will help us as we continue to drive forward our economy and really see Sheffield on the up.”

Andrew Davison, project director, Queensberry, said: “This has been five years of hard work, and we are so proud to finally announce the opening date to the public. This hotel will set a new benchmark in quality accommodation and style, becoming the number one destination within the city for any event whether it’s a conference, celebrational event or just an overnight stay. Radisson Hotel Group is a leading brand and operator of hotels and having this International and well renowned brand over the door, demonstrates the strength and attraction of Sheffield.”

Valerie Donaldson, general manager of Radisson Blu Sheffield, said: “Sheffield is undergoing significant investment right now, and we are thrilled to be a part of the transformation of the city. We’re looking forward to working with Queensbury, Turner & Townsend, and Sheffield City Council to make this hotel come alive. We can’t wait to bring the Radisson Blu brand to Sheffield and create a place within the city where people want to come and eat, drink, stay and just have a really good time.”

The architect is HLM Architects. Turner & Townsend is the project manager.
