North Yorkshire set to greenlight 400 homes near Selby
Three different applications for housing in Thorpe Willoughby will be considered at the council’s next planning meeting, with all recommended for approval.
Hallam Land management has applied for permission to build 140 homes on land to the north of Leeds Road in the village, which is 5km from Selby, while Vistry Homes has applied for 145 homes on land to the south of Leeds Road.
The Henry Boot subsidiary has its eye on 17 acres of land, 11 of which will be used for residential development with a central play area. Its project team includes Pegasus Group on planning.
Meanwhile, Vistry’s scheme was prepared by Barton Willmore now Stantec and sits on 12 acres of land. Plans are for two- to three-storey houses with 20% being affordable.
Sherwood Brothers has also applied to develop up to 110 homes at the adjacent Field Lane in the village.
Its scheme was designed by AAH Consultants and will sit on 14 acres of land bound to the north by the village and to the south by the A63.
Meanwhile a smaller scheme involving the demolition of a a building and the development of 25 homes on Cliffe Lane in neighbouring Osgodby is also recommended for approval.
The site is being brought forward by Newett Homes and received permission in 2021, which has since lapsed, and is now once again recommended for approval.
At the same meeting, the council is likely to refuse permission for an agricultural field in Selby to be turned into a sports field.
An athletics track is proposed along with field sports, boundary fencing, and on-site parking on the land, which sits to the north of Leeds Road, however the council’s report notes that current residents might be inconvenienced by the extra traffic.
