MTL primes Rotherham expansion
Specialist manufacturer MTL Advanced wants to add a 74,000 sq ft building it describes as urgently needed if it is to remain in the area.
The site is around 1.5m south-west of Rotherham town centre in the established industrial area of Brinsworth, close to the Sheffield boundary.
Stainton Planning and JBP Construction Consultants are advising.
MTL is a specialist contractor in the metals sector, currently operating from a neighbouring 300,000 sq ft unit to supply Original Equipment Manufacturers across sectors including defence & security, recycling, transport, construction and quarrying.
To ensure it can continue operating in the area, MTL said it urgently requires the additional space.
The site is accessed off Grange Lane via Bawtry Road and is currently taken up by hardstanding, having previously played host to open storage. Part of the site will continue to be car parking in association with the wider MTL operation.
MTL is seeking full consent for an additional manufacturing facility to the east of its existing premises. The manufacturing facility, with ancillary storage and distribution, would be provided in a large commercial building with ancillary offices to the front. The scheme also includes loading bay facilities, car parking and soft landscaping.
South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority has requested the applicant pay for a new bus stop as part of the conditions, a sum of around £11,000.
Rotherham Council’s planning committee meets on 29 February with approval recommended. The plans can be viewed on the authority’s planning portal with the reference RB2023/1471.
