Leeds to mull next East Leeds Extension plans

A pre-application proposal from Redrow for 352 homes on land at Red Hall Lane will be considered by the council next week.

Designed by Pegasus, proposals also include the conversion of offices into two apartments in the Old Farmhouse, refurbishment of Gate House, the conversion of outbuildings into garages and bin storage, and infrastructure works.

The scheme was first brought before the council in 2022, and since then ‘significant’ layout changes have been made.

Council members are now being asked to consider the new layout, affordable and accessible housing provision, conservation, landscaping, and infrastructure matters, ahead of a formal application.

Pegasus has created three ‘character areas’ for the development, which will vary in architectural style, density, and landscaping and will be split into a low-density area to the east of Red Hall House, a low-density area to the south of Red Hall Lane, and a medium-density area to the south.

The wider East Leeds Extension is spread over 575 acres around the edge of Swarcliffe, Whinmoor, and Crossgates, including the Red Hall site.

Around 5,000 homes will be built on the land, and the East Leeds Orbital Route has also been built to accommodate the scheme.
