Kirklees greenlights Cowlersley homes
A total of 57 affordable houses will be built on council-owned land at Main Avenue in the West Yorkshire village.
The scheme is being delivered through a partnership between Kirklees Council, Thirteen Group and Strata Homes, and alongside the homes, plans include public green space, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure to create a residential community.
The project is also expected to generate wider economic benefits through investment in local infrastructure and construction activity.
The development forms part of Kirklees Council’s wider affordable housing programme, which aims to bring forward new affordable homes across the district and the wider region.
With planning permission now secured, the project can progress towards the next stage of delivery, although the council has not said when it expects work to proceed.
Cllr Phillip James, cabinet member for housing and physical communities, said: “The need for affordable housing across Kirklees has never been greater, with many individuals and families finding it increasingly difficult to access a home that meets their needs and remains within their budget.”
Thirteen’s development and partnerships director, Marie Kiddell, said: “Working in partnership with Kirklees Council and Strata Homes, we’ll help address local housing need by providing high-quality, energy efficient, affordable homes and creating opportunities for people and families to put down roots, build brighter futures and become part of a strong community.”
