January start for two Gleeson developments

Foundations will be laid at Danum Glade in Doncaster and Waterloo Sidings in Leeds, providing more than 460 affordable homes to the region.

Leeds-based Edward Architects worked across both projects.

The Doncaster site is on a former colliery, and will comprise 333 homes on the 40-acre site. Made up of two-, three-, and four-bed houses, the brownfield site will also have a country park and pedestrian woodland trail.

Waterloo Sidings in Leeds is a former railway goods sidings site and will house 133 homes. Also made up of two-, three-, and four-bed houses, access will be from Halton Moor Avenue.

Oliver Smith, associate at Edward Architects, said: “It was refreshing to work on these historical, former national rail and coal board site schemes with semi parkland settings and lots of footpath links, as well as community trails and ecology providing a great location for the housing developments.

“We worked on both projects from the very early stages and on the Doncaster site for the former land owner, Harworth Estates, where we provided early feasibility studies, so it’s satisfying to see the evolution of the scheme from conception through to construction.”
