Honey advances South Yorks resi
The Sheffield housebuilder has secured consent for a £15.5m project in Waverley, and submitted plans for a £53m, 184-home development in Doncaster.
Private equity-backed Honey has now lodged proposals for, and exchanged contracts on, a 16-acre site in Bessacarr, Doncaster, to deliver Opal, a project off Cammidge Way adjacent to Bawtry Road.
Subject to planning, Opal will comprise a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes and feature 17 house type designs. Forty three homes have been designated to affordable housing.
The proposed site will form part of the Doncaster Local Plan which requires a total of 15,640 new homes to be built by 2035.
If given the go-ahead by Doncaster Council, work is slated to begin in May 2025, with the first residents moving in in spring 2026.
Honey is backed by private equity firm Alchemy Partners and its Alchemy Special Opportunities Fund IV which has £937m of fully committed capital.
Honey chief executive officer Mark Mitchell said: “Bessacarr is a fantastic location for us to build. Our extensive market research has discovered there is significant demand for high specification, high quality homes in and around the local area.
“Our proposed development will satisfy this demand with properties that are thoughtfully designed to combine style, substance and sustainability for the benefit of our buyers and the local community.
“We are very pleased to have submitted plans and exchanged contracts on our Opal development and we now look forward to Doncaster Council’s response.”
The ‘Homes by Honey at Waverley’ development is located on the former Orgreave colliery and coking site off Rivelin Way, sitting within wider plans to transform the 740-acre site into a new, sustainable community.
Large-scale regeneration specialist Harworth is effectively the master developer, with other firms taking on projects within the area including Sheffield’s Sky-House, which has four Waverley developments, including the mixed-use Olive Lane.
Mitchell said: “Waverley is an excellent regeneration project, so we are very pleased that our development will become part of it.
“Now planning has been granted, we look forward to works starting to deliver homes that combine style, substance and sustainability for the benefit of our buyers and the communities in which we build.”
