New £7m primary school for Northallerton
Hobson & Porter has completed work on a new £7m primary school in Northallerton, built to accommodate a nearby housing development.
The site on Alverton Road was acquired through a planning condition agreed with Persimmon Homes, Mulberry Homes and Taylor Wimpey, who are developing the mixed-use 900 dwellings site nearby.
Planning permission was granted to the consortium in 2016 for the development of a neighbourhood in Northallerton, to include, among other things, homes, restaurants, a doctors surgery, recreational playing pitches and the newly completed primary school.
Constructed by Hull-based Hobson & Porter, Oakbridge Church of England Primary School will have an initial intake of 18 reception class pupils, increasing over a seven-year period until it reaches its full capacity of 210.
The school is being run by the Dales Academies Trust and has indoor and outdoor sports provision, a well-stocked library, a bespoke Early Years classroom, a purpose-built art studio and capacity for expansion.
Richard Hunter, managing director at Hobson & Porter, said: “Oakbridge Church of England Primary School is an exceptional school with superb facilities, which will make it a hugely valuable asset for the local community.
“It’s also a great addition to our portfolio of high-quality school and college projects that we’ve successfully delivered across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in recent years, and seeing the school welcoming its first pupils is a special moment for the whole development team.”
Ward member for Northallerton North and Brompton division, Cllr Steve Watson, added: “Oakbridge Primary will not only have big educational benefits for all pupils, but will also be a valuable asset for the local community.
“This is another key piece of the overall North Northallerton development. It is wonderful to see the children and staff embracing their school and starting to breathe life.”
