Green light for Barnsley housing

The council has approved Crest Nicholson’s plans to build 230 homes on 18 acres of farmland in Wombwell.

Located south of Pit Lane, the land is designated as a protected site but issues with proving a five-year housing supply has meant the development will go ahead.

A number of objections have been raised over the plans in regards to loss of habitat, however the council agreed at its meeting on Tuesday that ‘no unacceptable harm’ would be caused.

Currently, outline permission for the amount of houses and arrangements for access from Pit Lane have been approved, with layout, landscaping, and appearance of the estate to be considered at the reserved matters stage.
