Graham cracks on with Jock’s Lodge works
The £90m road improvement scheme is the largest construction project ever carried out by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and will aim to remove bottlenecks along two of the region’s busiest roads, the A164 Hull to Beverley and the A1079 Hull to York.
Located outside Beverley, the £89.6m project was funded by £40.7m from the Department for Transport, with the council making up the remaining £42.6m.
This Thursday, the latest changes to the road layout will be put into place, providing a new access road to the A1079.
The current Jock’s Lodge junction on the A164 will be closed, meaning traffic will reach the road via a newly built section that runs between Bentley and the Lincoln Way roundabout in Beverley.
Traffic will travel to a new roundabout on the A1079, along the route between Bentley and Minster Way.
Graham has been working on the scheme since January 2024, and completion of the project is expected in late 2026.
Aiming to free up the traffic on the two thoroughfares, once complete a new dual carriageway will be opened along the A164 between Beverley and the Skidby roundabout.
Traffic has already been switched to newly built sections of the northbound A164 and extensive construction and earthworks have been carried out across the site.
These latest moves will enable work to continue on to the southbound phase.
Cllr Gary McMaster, the council’s cabinet member for housing and infrastructure, said: “We have passed the halfway point now but there’s still plenty of work to be done.
“When it’s all complete next year, motorists will enjoy much freer, smoother, and quicker travel along this route and onwards to the rest of the East Riding.”
