Gladman submits Scarborough plans
The developer is looking to build 190 homes on a 22-acre plot at Mill Lane in Cayton in a scheme supported by architect FPCR Environment & Design.
The plans have been lodged with North Yorkshire Council and also include a children’s play area, public open space, a 25-space car park next to the existing village primary school, and around one acre of land earmarked for the future expansion of said school.
Located around four miles south of Scarborough, the site is an arable field surrounded by hedgerow separating it from Mill Lane to the west, Cayton Community Primary School to the south, and more hedgerows and woodland to the north and east.
The homes will range from one- to four-bed properties and will include around 29 affordable homes, with vehicular access from Mill Lane.
Two attenuation basins are also proposed in the scheme, one within green space to the east of the site and the other in the south eastern corner.
A previous application for 200 homes on the site was proposed and refused in 2019, with reasons ranging from conflict within the adopted development plan, harm caused to the village’s rural setting, and extra pressure placed on the school.
