For East Riding of Yorkshire Council Leader Cllr Anne Handley and Salford City Council head of partnerships and investment Sarah Ashurst, MIPIM is a chance to put their communities where they belong – on the global stage.
Both spoke at Place North’s Pre-MIPIM Delegation Dinner on 9 February, kicking off an evening of good food and good conversation as representatives from the North of England’s 60-company-strong delegation gathered together for the first time.
Handley pointed to East Yorkshire being home to the largest UK port by tonnage and the University of Hull’s provision for AI educational courses as two examples of how the region is worthy of attention. Ashurst delved into Salford’s regeneration projects, reminding those in attendance that Salford Crescent is just one of many projects in the pipeline. Both affirmed that their councils were open for business.

The dinner was held at the Castlefield Rooms in Manchester and was proof that the “MIPIM magic” can begin well before anyone steps foot in Cannes for the global property convention in March. In addition to hearing from Handley and Ashurst, those attending also received a sneak peek of Place North’s MIPIM programming. The result was a definite buzz in the room, which provided a taste of what is to come when MIPIM starts on 9 March.
