First houses complete at North Yorkshire retirement site

The first 20 houses are now complete at Lovell Later Living’s maiden over-55s development in Middle Deepdale, near Scarborough.

Three of the homes are now occupied, with a further 11 going through the purchase process.

Work started on the 81-home development in 2022, following Lovell’s acquisition of the 7.85 acre parcel of land from Kebbell Developments.

Named Sandcastles, it is the first project by Lovell Later Living, part of housebuilder Lovell.

Lovell was also the main contractor for the project, which was designed for people over the age of 55 to live in as they grow older, with features such as level access throughout, wider doorways, low window handles, and the option to have a lift installed on selected houses.

There are nine different two and three-bedroom property types at the development including bungalows, apartments, and houses.

The development is part of the Middle Deepdale Masterplan, which is part of the wider Eastfield Regeneration Investment Plan developed by Scarborough Council in partnership with Kebbell Developments and supported by North Yorkshire County Council and Homes England.

Paula Broadbent, managing director of Lovell Later Living, said: “Some of our customers will be looking well ahead and considering how their needs might change in the future. Others may need to think quite urgently about a new home that suits them better in the short as well as the long term.”
