Nine months into its parliament, the Labour government has made some very positive noises around housing. A commitment to address the nation’s chronic lack of homes has prompted a very ambitious target to build 1.5m over the next five years.
However, the reality on the ground – a sluggish planning system and yawning viability gaps – threatens to undermine that ambition.
At this breakfast briefing, we will gather leaders from across the private and public sectors to find out how the government’s housing push is panning out in their areas, explore what they are doing to turbocharge the delivery of new homes, and ask what needs to change if Labour is going to live up to its self-proclaimed billing as the party of housebuilding.
Speakers confirmed so far:
Stephen Wild, managing director, Peel Land
Jonathan Wilson, managing director, Citu
Tom Stannard, chief executive, Manchester City Council
