Demolition of Hull’s Boothberry Flats begins
Around 150 homes will replace the three tower blocks, which are being demolished by GBM Demolition and are expected to be completely cleared by autumn.
GBM was appointed following a tender process launched by Hull City Council last August. A development partner has yet to be announced for the site.
Once the three towers – Torpoint, Millport, and Woolwich – are removed, the site will be redesigned to include the energy efficient affordable housing, as well as non-residential buildings such as shops.
The plan is to retain much of the green space already available.
Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for economic renewal, housing, and organisational development, cllr Paul Drake-Davis, said: “This long-awaited development allows us to really push forward towards the creation of more homes in our city for those on our housing waiting list.
“The council has gone through extensive consultation with residents to get to this point, with a clear indication from them that the outdated towers needed to be replaced with a modern mixture of houses and apartments.
“There will be at least the same number of energy efficient and sustainable new council homes as those that will be demolished on the sites.”
