Citu to restore 6,000 sq ft venue in Kelham Island’s Globe Steel Works
The developer will turn the space in the 1850s former steelworks into a leisure destination.
Globe Steel Works is one of the final parts of Sheffield’s Kelham Central residential neighbourhood, which has also been developed by Citu.
Possibilities touted for the building include a live music venue built around the building’s original grand staircase, with permission granted for an entertainment licence.
Planning permission has also been granted for an outdoor roof terrace with views across Kelham Central.
The venue is available to let, as is a 2,000 sq ft unit at Kelham Triangle, a residential apartment block next to Globe Steel Works, and a 504 sq ft space in the centre of Kelham Central.
Chris Thompson, founder of CITU, said: “Globe Steel Works is in the heart of Kelham Island and will offer the perfect mix of a sustainable renovation that still retains the distinct character of the building.
“As well as creating opportunities for like-minded businesses to be part of a new chapter for Globe Steel Works, we also want to build on the sense of community here by creating more places in Kelham where residents and local people can socialise; to have the space to relax, reconnect, and enjoy their surroundings together.
“Each unit offers something different but collectively they will add a huge amount to the vibrancy of the wider Kelham Island neighbourhood. It’s all part of our ongoing vision where we enable people to live in more sustainable, healthy and inspiring places.”
