Caddick updates Maltkiln proposals
Further consultation has led to changes to the masterplan for the new 4,000-home settlement in North Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire property group has now submitted its updated plans to North Yorkshire Council.
A three-week community consultation saw 229 stakeholders, members of the local community and other interested parties attended the event, with 96 responses submitted for consideration.
As well as mixed-tenure homes, the masterplan includes two primary schools, a mixed use local centre and healthcare facilities.
Centred around the existing Cattal railway station, the development includes sustainable heating and transport features, with the addition of accessible pathways linking to surrounding public rights of way, allowing neighbouring villages to access new facilities.
Changes to the proposals include:
- Improvements to the A59, introducing new crossing points and creating safer access to Maltkiln and neighbouring villages
- Replanning of the movement network across the site, including changes to the new bridge over the railway line and improved pedestrian and cycle connectivity
- Relocation of the sports hub to be closer to the proposed village centre and railway station
- Amending the locations of the two proposed primary schools
- Formalising the public use of the green spaces within the ‘strategic gap’, the landscaped area which separates the new development from the existing communities at Green Hammerton and Kirk Hammerton, including the provision of additional walking, cycling and horse-riding routes.
Chris Procter, director at Caddick Group said: “We are grateful for the feedback received from the local community and stakeholders, some of which has enabled us to further refine our plans and ensure that Maltkiln serves the needs of the community both now and in the future.
“We are committed to creating a sustainable, connected community at Maltkiln and making a significant contribution to meeting housing needs in North Yorkshire.”
As a major new housing development, the Maltkiln development plan document has been submitted by North Yorkshire Council to the government, and is due to be examined by a Planning Inspector in September.
