And finally… Yorkshire takes its time
Interested in the results from yesterday’s local elections? Then please remain seated, as when it comes to counting the votes, Yorkshire is refusing to rush.
Voters across Barnsley, Sheffield, Hull, and all five of West Yorkshire’s regions went to the polls yesterday with the same deadline – however, timings for result announcements vary wildly between them.
At one end of the spectrum sits Hull, the electoral equivalent of the student who finishes the exam early and leaves quietly while everyone else is still reading the first question. Hull released its results at around 2am this morning.
Elsewhere across Yorkshire, however, officials are taking a more leisurely approach. Many councils are not expected to declare until somewhere between 4pm and 6pm on Friday.
Then there’s Bradford, which has looked at the idea of overnight counting and politely declined altogether. After all, democracy is important – but so is getting everyone home before midnight.
Bradford’s results are not expected until Saturday afternoon, by which point the rest of the country may already be arguing about something entirely different.
Place Yorkshire will keep you updated as results roll in.
Expected timings for Yorkshire results:
