And finally… pump it up

While we’re all still feeling a bit of Olympic inspiration, this seems a handy time for Barnsley’s first pump track to open.

Now open at Darfield Road in Cudworth, the facility has been developed with funding set aside following the removal of the skate park at the Dorothy Hyman sports centre.

The pump track can be used by bikes, scooters, and skateboarders, is wheelchair-accessible and features a number of different terrains to cater to different skill levels (phew, said the middle-aged blokes).

The council’s parks team worked with Bike Track in designing and installing the new track.

Cllr James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways at Barnsley Council, said:

“The new bike track at Darfield Road is another example of our commitment to providing our residents with the facilities to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.

“By providing opportunities for different skill levels and uses, the track shows our commitment to making Barnsley healthier, happier and more connected.”
