Dean Clough is once again getting its call sheet in order, as hit comedy High Hoops returns for a third series – bringing production back to the 22-acre mixed-use destination for the second time.
Independent production company Can Can Productions has secured a temporary 5,000 sq ft lease within the former mill complex, which will be used for storage, costumes, and set production ahead of filming, due to begin next month.
For Dean Clough, it marks another chapter in an increasingly familiar role: part studio base, part creative campus, and part unofficial Northern outpost for screen production.
That adaptability has helped position Halifax more broadly as a growing hub for screen work in the North, with major players including the BBC, Netflix and Disney+ all having made use of the region in recent years.
Dean Clough itself has featured in a number of productions, including Happy Valley, Ackley Bridge, and Secret Invasion, and the site’s broader creative ecosystem is part of its appeal for production companies looking for more than just space.
Dean Clough is also home to a range of cultural and educational assets that quietly reinforce its production credentials, including Northern Broadsides, the resident theatre company at the Viaduct Theatre, and creative training provision delivered in partnership with Calderdale College, which supports emerging talent across film, TV, digital design and games development.
