And finally… a dog’s life

A new initiative from Visit Hull and East Yorkshire is looking to capitalise on the growing trend of holidaying with pets, with businesses invited to get involved.

Something like 23m UK households have pets, many of them dogs. And as many dog-owners will have noticed, particularly in the pet boom that happened around those lonely Covid lockdowns, finding adequate pet care for holidays can be really hard.

Essentially, more than ever, dogs have become part of holiday planning.

The new VHEY campaign highlights dog-friendly establishments across the region to residents and visitors alike, helping local businesses promote themselves through online listings. VHEY’s social media platforms will be put to work, and free materials are available.

Local shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and accommodation providers are all being invited to sign up, free of charge, and take part in the campaign.

VHEY chair, Chris Blacksell said: “Hull and East Yorkshire is the perfect destination for pet-friendly holidaying be it for a day trip or a short break. The mix of the East Yorkshire Coast, Yorkshire Wolds, historic market towns and the city of Hull provides dog lovers with a superb choice of locations to visit and explore.

“We have many dog-friendly businesses across the region who are only too happy to extend a paw of hospitality to four-legged companions. This campaign will aim to promote the establishments to new audiences and grow our national reputation as a dog-friendly destination.”

It really could not be any simpler.
